Directed and filmed by Locke Stock Creative, this music video captures the essence of growing up while playfully bringing the band, Audio Rocketry, back to their roots.
The concept behind Old Strathcona revolves around the idea that as the members of Audio Rocketry are growing older and embracing parenthood, they also cherish the memories of their carefree youth. The video artfully intertwines various childhood activities and personal anecdotes from the band's past, delivering a poignant message about the importance of retaining a youthful spirit.
I wore multiple hats in this project, serving as both the director and cinematographer. This allowed for a seamless translation of the band's ideas into captivating visuals. Post-production duties were skillfully handled by Blair Dover, with Locke Stock taking the reins for the final color grading.
While no storyboards were used, meticulous planning went into selecting activities and locations that embodied the band's childhood experiences. The team had to navigate a tight shooting schedule and adapt creatively to various constraints, resulting in a collection of memorable and relatable scenes. We filmed in the picturesque town of Drumheller, Alberta. The video exudes the nostalgic charm of a 90s sitcom or lifestyle show, perfectly complementing the era that the band and many viewers grew up in.
"Old Strathcona" serves as a reminder of the joy and carefree spirit of childhood. It encourages viewers to embrace their inner child and find happiness in the memories of youth. The video resonates with audiences on a deeply personal level, thanks to its relatable and nostalgic themes.
